The Iron Giant - 1999

Throughout the years both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional animations have gradually gotten better as technology improves and people have experimented more in what may or may not work.

3 Dimensional Animation

3 Dimensional animation has been around since the early 1900s and at the time it was knows as 'claymation' or 'clay animation'. An example of a famous 3 dimensional animation that uses claymation or stopmotion clay animation is 'Wallace and Gromit'

Wallace and Gromit - 1989

Wallace and Gromit is a British stop-motion clay animation which has seemed to capture a wide range audience from children to adults. In my opinion, the stop-motion clay animation was popular because at the time of its release till this day it would possibly have to be one of the most unique 3 dimensional animations.

3 Dimensional Animated Music Videos

Kraftwerk - Musique Non Stop (1986)

In this music video by a German techno group named 'Kraftwerk', it shows the mixture between the rendered animations of the members of the group and the wireframe animations in the video. The person that animated the music video was Rebecca Allen who was a pioneer in the field of animation and the music video became one of the earliest uses of 3 - dimensional rendering in music videos, the video later won awards and is considered a classic.

I found out about this song from my dad and I immediately became intrigued with the music video because of the mixture of the rendered animation and wireframe animation, this music video would have to be one of my favourite animations because of how different it was and because the animation is quite smooth and well done for something made at its time which was in 1986.

Eiffel 65 - I'm Blue

The song 'I'm Blue' by Eiffel 65 is one of the few songs that I knew for its 3 dimensional animation and CGI more than for the actual song itself. I found it interesting because of the mixture of animation, CGI and reality and the little story in the video, although for the time of its release, the animation is quite good but in my opinion Kraftwerk's song 'musique non stop' music video's animation is better even though it is older.

Shanks & Bigfoot - Sweet Like Chocolate (1999)

This music video was made a year after the animated music video "I'm Blue" and is also considered a classic.

In my opinion as a personal preference, even though this animated video has an environment I would still say the 'Music non stop' animation by Rebecca Allen was of better quality than this music video.

Gorillaz

Gorillaz 19-2000

Gorillaz - Dare (2005)

Gorillaz is possibly one of the most popular animated music groups to date, they usually use CGI and 2-Dimensional animations in their music videos. Quite a lot of their videos have stories in them than the animated videos being used as visual effects. Gorillaz is one of my favourite bands and my favourite animated band for many reasons, one of the main reasons are that each character has their own unique personality and as you watch their videos you can gradually see the animations become more polished and the art style improving.

Gorillaz - Désolé (2020)

For their live performances, as shown below the live performance with Madonna they used holograms so it seemed like the animated characters were present on the stage with the singer Madonna and for their performance at the Brits, there was a 3 - Dimensional animation displayed on the screen.

Gorillaz ft. Madonna - Feel Good Inc & Hung Up live at Grammy Awards 2006

Gorillaz - Dirty Harry Live at Brits (2006)

Movie

The Jungle Book (2016)

This current Jungle Book movie's CGI and 3-Dimensional animation is amazing in my opinion because of how they managed to combine both reality and fantasy, although with the help of the fact that technology has improved, what possibly made this movie so popular when it came out is how realistic everything was because of the rendering.
