Walking is a simple movement to get from one place to another, everyone's style of walking is different as everyone is unique whether they notice it or not. For the walk cycle you will need to try and keep consistency in the rhythm of the steps, the bounces in the steps and consistency in the swinging motion of the arms.

Types of Walk Styles

With walking, there are different styles of walking whether you notice it or not, a lot of emotion can be shown in how you walk and even the speed of the walk. For example,

for if you are stressed, it would show in the speed and posture of the walk. If someone is in a good mood then their posture would either be straightened or an overexaggerated posture with more swinging arm movement.

Mulan Walk Cycle

Another example of a type of walk cycle is shown below, as shown in the diagram, the girl's posture and hand placement could show that she is timid person that keeps to herself.

Key frames and The In-between Frames

The main key frames and the frames that go in-between are very critical to the walk cycle. Both the main key frames and the frames in-between serve an equal amount of importance in animating the walk cycle. The main key frames serve a purpose of knowing the main points of the animation such as the stride, stretch and passing position of the legs or arms, the in-between frames are as important because that is what helps make the animation more fluid and natural than blocky, stiff and seem like the animation is unnatural.
